Over the past five years, the department has been granted 15 national utility model patents, emerging as a comprehensive specialty with integrated development in clinical practice, teaching and scientific research. Though starting late, our Department of Thoracic Surgery has developed rapidly in recent years and boasts strong technical strength. Currently, it has 25 authorized inpatient beds and a team of 15 medical staff, featuring distinctive enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) services focused on laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery for thoracic tumors with individualized whole-course management and comprehensive emergency treatment for thoracic trauma.
The department is a postgraduate enrollment specialty for thoracic surgery affiliated with Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Jinan University and Guangdong Medical University. It also serves as the Deputy Member Unit of the South China Famous Doctors Alliance, Guangdong Precision Diagnosis and Treatment Alliance for Lung Tumors, and the Committee on Cancer and Gynecological Prevention and Control of Guangdong Provincial Association of Ethnic Medicine.
A number of our diagnostic and therapeutic technologies are in the leading position in the region, including minimally invasive radical resection for esophageal cancer, lung cancer and malignant mediastinal tumors, esophageal fistula repair, and minimally invasive resection with preoperative localization for pulmonary nodules. The department places great emphasis on the comprehensive treatment and whole-course management of benign and malignant thoracic tumors, and our core technical strength lies in the comprehensive emergency treatment for severe thoracic trauma such as rib fractures, sternal fractures, hemopneumothorax and lung contusions—also a key clinical feature of our department. We also have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of chest wall deformities, mediastinal tumors, malignant pleural effusion, empyema, pneumothorax, lung abscess and pulmonary sequestration. With a strong overall strength, the department exerts a significant influence in the surrounding areas.
